Oh, Death
Won’t you spare me over til’ another (year…)
But what is this, that I can’t see,
with ice cold hands taking hold of me.

Eren shouldn’t have taken his eyes off of you, he should’ve kept you in his squad. Instead, it was
necessary to separate momentarily in order to divert an aberrant titan during an expedition.

To be honest, you were incredibly terrified of the whole ordeal. He was a little surprised that you made it past training, and nonetheless decided to join the Survey Corps. Since you were in the same division as him, you managed to get closer to each other.

Eren made a promise one day to you, that he’d protect you. He knew he shouldn’t have made such an empty promise, knowing what this world was made of. It was cruel, Mikasa kept on reminding him about that.

He watched in horror as you veered off to the side along with a couple other soldiers.

When God is gone and the Devil takes hold,

There was no way you could defeat this aberrant. It was fast, it was strong, and it was large. At least it wasn’t smart.

But you weren’t like the more experienced soldiers beside you. You practically held onto the reins of your horse like a lifeline. In fact, you took a quick glance back to Eren, who was indeed looking at you with those enchanting green eyes of his. They were of course filled with worry.

“Hey, don’t look back!” A soldier next to you snapped. “That’ll only slow you down!”

“Y-yes sir!”

The aberrant jumped into your line of sight, and you squeaked in shock. You quickly turned back around, tears filling your eyes. You couldn’t die today, you still had a whole life ahead of you.

You… you wanted to confess to Eren.

There wasn’t going to be any of that, unless you somehow got rid of this titan. “S-sir! Switch to vertical maneuver?” You asked timidly.

No answer.

You were the only one. Apparently, in your haze, the titan grabbed both of the soldiers next to you. You screamed and cried, reaching for the flare with shaking hands. You successfully shot it to the sky, but you knew no one could get to you in time. It was then, that you realized you were definitely going to die.

Oh, Death.
No wealth, no ruin, no silver, no gold,
Nothing satisfies me but your soul.

Eren heard you scream, and he saw a flare go up. “Jaeger, don’t look back.” Levi said bluntly. “We have a mission to finish.”

“...[First]...”

He had to decide, whether a promise was more important than the mission at hand.

“She has two guys with her.” Petra reassured, smiling as best she could. “They were pretty skilled with their gear, so I’m sure she’s fine. We’ll be able to meet with her at rendezvous point, don’t worry. Right now, let’s move ahead.”

Eren gritted his teeth, but soon gave in. “All right.” He faced forward, where a forest of huge trees lay in front of him.

He had to focus. If he was in a daze, and the mission failed, there would be more casualties and he would be handed over to the military police.

However, his thoughts kept on going to her. What if she was dead? She would’ve already caught up with them after handling with the aberrant, right?

He shook his head.

Right, mission. That’s what he had to focus on. Not that promise he made to you.

Oh, Death.

Tears welled in your eyes. You couldn’t shoot your gear at anything, other than the titan. And you weren’t that skilled with it, especially since the titan was a little smarter than the average beast. It was indeed quicker and stronger.

You wished Eren was there, he would’ve helped you.

He would’ve protected you, just like he promised back at orientation.

The titan jumped in front of you, and your attempt at riding away from it seemed to fail. You screamed again, your horse keeling back, causing you to fall off.

Well, I am Death, none can excel,
I’ll open the door to heaven or hell.

You thought about Eren as you shot your gear toward the titan. The gear successfully latched on to the creature, and you sped towards it at great speed.

Until you heard the sputter of your gas tank, then you free fell for a second.

You paled, and saw the titan leap for you with an open mouth.

Again, you screamed as the teeth sunk into your bones and muscles.

Your last thoughts were about him, and what could’ve been. What should have been.
With that, your vision was filled with red, before it faded into black.

Oh, Death.

There was a new titan, and she chased them through the forest. They failed to capture it, resulting with the death of Levi’s squad, while Eren had to transform to defend himself and possibly get revenge.

Now, Eren had woken up suddenly in the cart. Mikasa was at his side, looking at him with worry and concern. It took a moment for him to find his voice. “Mikasa, have you seen her return?” He asked.

She blinked, and stared at her hands, immediately knowing who he meant. “No.”

Eren balled his fists.

How could he let this happen to you? He was supposed to be at your side, to protect you.

Yet, he failed you.
